Erwin Stauss

Erwin Stauss (born May 4, 1917 in Mainz ; died December 14, 1985 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German social functionary.

Life

Erwin Stauss was the son of a master hairdresser and a housewife. He attended secondary school in Mainz and began studying to become a trade teacher at the vocational education institute in Frankfurt am Main , which he graduated from the Berlin School of Economics in 1941 . Stauss was a medical soldier in World War II. As a tuberculosis patient, he became the administrator and finally until 1951 director of a lung sanatorium in Nauroth im Taunus. Stauss co-founded the Hessen State Association of the German Parity Welfare Association (DPWV) in 1946 and the general association in 1949, initially under the name of the Working Group of Parity Welfare Associations in the countries of the western zone. From 1952 on, Stauss set up the main office of the DPWV in Frankfurt am Main, where he held the position of director from 1956 and general manager from 1967. He retired in 1980. During his tenure, the number of member organizations of the DPWV rose from 371 (1951) through 723 (1960) and 1473 (1970) to 2858 (1980). Stauss was president of the Federal Association of Independent Welfare Care six times in rotation .

Stauss received the plaque of honor from the city of Frankfurt am Main in 1975 , the Great Federal Cross of Merit in 1976 and the letter of honor from the State of Hesse in 1981 .
