Erykine
Erykine ( Greek Ἐρυκίνη ) is an epithet of Aphrodite , in its Latin form Erucina of Venus .
The nickname comes from Mount Eryx in Sicily , today's Erice , where it had its main temple. According to Diodorus , the temple was built by their son Eryx and his father Butes , at Virgil it was built by Aeneas . After Pausanias , Eryx's daughter Psophis built another temple in Arcadia .
Their cult also penetrated Rome , where the Venus Erycina is known in 217 BC. A magnificent temple on the Capitol and in 181 BC. Chr. Consecrated a second in front of the Porta Collina on the Quirinal .
