Similar species

Especially with Erythrodiplax hyalina and Erythrodiplax media the species is to be confused due to the overlapping flight areas. A distinction is very difficult and can only be made on the basis of the structure of the penis. The smaller and lighter spot in the hind wing compared to E. media , and the structure of the hamulus in E. hyalina also provide clues .
