Erythrodiplax angustipennis is a small species of dragonfly from the subfamily Sympetrinae . It occurs along the Rio Madeira and from its confluence with the Amazon there as well. The name angustipennis is derived from the narrow base ofthe species' penis .

Erythrodiplax angustipennis is a dark species whose males reach abdomen lengths of 18.0 to 20.0 millimeters. The females are insignificantly smaller and reach between 18.5 and 19.0 millimeters. The male abdomen as the thorax and the legs black blue, the thorax and abdomen, the first four segments shimmer bluish. The female coloring tends towards the brownish black and thus represents a sexual dichroism . On the segments three to six of the abdomen the females also have a weak green lateral stripe. The transparent hind wings of the females are 24.0 to 25.0 millimeters long and thus slightly larger than the 22.0 to 24.0 millimeters long wings of the males. Distally , both pairs of wings are tinted slightly brown. The approach of the hind wings is also narrowed compared to other generic representatives. The pterostigma measures 2.3 to 2.8 millimeters in males and 2.9 millimeters in females.
