Erzsébet Gulyás-Köteles (born on November 3, 1924 as Erzsébet Köteles in Budapest , † June 16, 2019 ) was a Hungarian gymnast who won five medals at the Olympic Games.

Life

At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , only the team competition was held for the last time in women's gymnastics. The team from Czechoslovakia won ahead of the Hungarians and gymnasts from the United States. Gulyas was fourth best individual gymnast in the Hungarian squad and twelfth best gymnast of all ranks.

Four years later, the Hungarian squad won the silver medal in the team competition behind the gymnasts from the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games in Helsinki . In the individual ranking, Gulyas officially took 12th place this time. On the ground she finished fourth with 18.99 points, while her teammate Margit Korondi received the bronze medal with 19.00 points. On the other devices, Gulyás achieved 11th place on the uneven bars , 13th place in the jump and 16th place on the balance beam . In the final group gymnastics with hand devices, the Swedish team won ahead of the Soviet Union and the Hungarians.

In 1954, the Hungarian squad won the silver medal behind the Soviet squad and ahead of the squad from Czechoslovakia at the world championships in Rome with Erzsébet Gulyás .

Two years later, Erzsébet Gulyás was also part of the Hungarian squad at the Olympic Games in Melbourne , which, like eight and four years earlier, won the silver medal in the team competition. In the individual ranking she took 18th place. Your best placement on the equipment was 19th place on the balance beam. The group gymnastics competition was won by the Hungarians in the line-up of Andrea Bodó , Erzsébet Gulyás, Ágnes Keleti , Alíz Kertész , Margit Korondi and Olga Tass, ahead of the Swedish defending champions.

Gulyás-Köteles worked as a trainer as early as 1950; After her sporting career, she worked as a sports teacher and also as an international judge.

Erzsébet Gulyás-Köteles died on June 16, 2019 at the age of 94 after a long illness in her hometown of Budapest.
