Esbønderup is a small town in North Zealand with 1118 inhabitants in Gribskov Municipality in the Hovedstaden region . The place consists of a smaller core of older houses from the 19th century surrounded by single houses from the 1960s. Esbønderup houses Denmark's oldest hospital from 1755 and has a nursing home , a supermarket , a kindergarten , Esbønderup Church, a school and a large work development institution for people in need.

history
A squire named Peter Litle lived in Esbønderup in 1496 .
In 1682 Esbønderup consisted of seven farms, one house with land and four houses without land. The entire cultivated land consisted of an area of 78 hectares. The usual agricultural cultivation took place in three-year crop rotation.
Around 1900 Esbønderup had a church, a pastor's house, a school, a hospital with 41 beds, a pharmacy (founded in 1868) and a doctor's house.
In 1903 a mission house was established and the village received a dairy farm .
The city was temporarily the capital of the municipality Esbønderup-Nødebo and from 1970 part of the Græsted-Gilleleje municipality .

- The Danish comedy Soldaterkammerater på bjørnetjeneste (German: company, stand still) from 1968 with the actor Preben Kaas . The film was shot in and around Esbønderup.
