Esben Hansen (born August 10, 1981 in Nykøbing Falster ) is a Danish football player .
Club career
The defensive midfielder began his career in the youth of the Boldklubben af 1921 (short: B.1921 ) in his hometown of Nykøbing Falster, which joined forces with other clubs in 1994 to form Nykøbing Falster alliances . From Nykøbing FA he moved to Odense BK in 2002 ; here he came up to 2007 on 172 missions in all competitions in which he scored ten goals.
For the 2007/08 season he joined the German second division club 1. FC Kaiserslautern . There he received a three-year contract, which he terminated early for a transfer fee of € 250,000 because, according to coach Kjetil Rekdal, he "simply didn't fit". He then decided to return to his ex-club Odense BK . After his contract with Odense BK was not renewed in 2010, he joined Lyngby BK after two months without a club .
National team
Hansen played twice in 2003 for the Danish U-21 national team . At the beginning of September 2007 Hansen was appointed to the Danish national team for the first time by coach Morten Olsen for the European Championship qualifiers against Sweden and Liechtenstein . He made his first game against Liechtenstein on September 12, 2007 in Aarhus ; with the number 10 on his back he was right in the starting line-up of the Danes.
