The Eschenbeek is a 1.377 kilometer long stream in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district of Wuppertal and a right tributary of the Mirker Bach . The tautology Eschenbeeker Bach is often used for the name of the flowing water ( Beek is the Low German word for "Bach").

etymology

The Eschenbeek is named after an old place name, in 1537 an "Eschenbicker Hoeffstadt" was mentioned. There are two interpretations of “Esch”, one based on the tree species ash (more likely), and the other based on an enclosed seed field or fields. At the same time these were cultivated and harvested or used as fallow fields.

An Eschenbeeker Straße (previously only Eschenbeek ) is described for the first time in the address book from 1850. It runs on the northeast slope of the Dorrenberg .

topography

The brook has its source at around 257 meters above sea level on the northern heights of Wuppertal on Wilhelm-Raabe-Weg , a side street off Hainstrasse , around 130 meters east of a former nursery.

The stream flows in a south-southeast direction and joins after around 490 meters with a nameless, 154-meter-long body of water from the right. 700 meters after the source, the 623-meter-long Florabach, piped up from the left , joins the Eschenbeek. After another 140 meters, there is a 688 meter long nameless inlet from the right.

After the creek at the foot of the Dorrenberg has flowed through an allotment garden, it runs around 1150 meters after the source near the Teschemacherstraße and flows into the Mirker Bach after about 220 meters at a height of about 177 meters, which in turn flows into the Wupper.
