Landscape on the Río Esla near Villamañan

The approximately 285 km long Río Esla is a right tributary of the Duero in northern Spain . It rises in the Cantabrian Mountains on the Peña Prieta and flows through the provinces of Léon and Zamora . Finally it flows into the Duero at Muelas del Pan (approx. 30 km west of Zamora ).

Places on the river

During its course, which always leads south and south-west, the Río Esla flows through the towns and cities of Riaño , Cistierna , Gradefes and Valencia de Don Juan .

Tributaries

The main tributaries of the Río Esla are: Aliste , Porma , Bernesga , Cea , Órbigo and Tera .
