Essence Atkins
Essence Atkins (* 7. February 1972 in Brooklyn , New York City as Essence Atkins Uhura ) is an American actress . She has been married to football player Jaime Mendez since September 2009 .
Her first appearances were in the 1980s on The Bill Cosby Show . In the 1990s, she was mainly seen in various television productions, followed by several cinema roles in the early 2000s. Since then she has been active in both media in a relatively equally distributed manner.
In the series Half & Half (2002–2006) and Are We There Yet? (2010–2012) Atkins played one of the leading roles.
In 2005 and 2011 she was nominated for the Image Award .
