The Estadio Benito Juárez , also known as Coloso de Ixcotel ( German  Koloss von Ixcotel ), is a football stadium in Oaxaca de Juárez , the capital of the Mexican state of Oaxaca .

history

The stadium was built in the 1980s as the home ground for the football club Chapulineros de Oaxaca , which was able to celebrate winning the third-rate Segunda División 'B' at this location in the 1992/93 season . Thus, after the second half of the 1987/88 season, the stadium was once again the venue for the second-rate Segunda División in 1993/94 .

Later, the stadium was used for five years as the venue of the 1994 under the name Primera División 'A' newly launched second division , when first the Chapulineros (2001-2003) played here and after their withdrawal from the league, the branch team transplanted to Oaxaca Cruz Azul Oaxaca (2003-2006) was a guest.

Until the completion of a newly planned stadium on the grounds of the Instituto Tecnológico de Oaxaca as the venue for Alebrijes de Oaxaca FC , which was included in the second division for the 2013/14 season , the stadium will be used again as a venue in the second division for a transitional period, despite all the shortcomings available, especially since there have been significant problems completing the Estadio Tecnológico de Oaxaca since construction work was suspended indefinitely in the summer of 2014.

The first deficiencies in the stadium were already apparent in the construction phase and delayed the opening originally planned for August 22, 1987. At that time, half of the stadium was in poor condition, so there was a risk of collapse. The official opening took place in December 1987 with a game between the Chapulineros and the Pioneros de Cancún .
