The Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the second largest Honduran city of San Pedro Sula . The facility has a capacity of 37,325 visitors.

history

The Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano was built in 1997 for the Central American Games. The stadium was built by Jerónimo Sandoval, also known as "Chombo Sandoval", who organized the 1997 Central American Games in San Pedro Sula. It is the country's national stadium and is home to the games of the Honduran national football team . It is also the home ground of the football clubs Club Deportivo Marathón and Real España , both of which play in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras , the country's top football league.

The actual capacity of the stadium is 37,325 spectators. For security reasons, however, FIFA only allows a maximum of 35,000 visitors. Normally, in an official match for the national team, tickets are limited to up to 40,000. Only 20,000 to 40,000 cards are dealt for a league game. But since it often happens that there are many more spectators in the stadium than there are tickets, the number of spectators often increases to 45,000.
