Esther Cleveland Bosanquet (born September 9, 1893 in Washington, DC , † June 25, 1980 in Tamworth , Carroll County , New Hampshire ) was the second daughter of US President Grover Cleveland and his wife Frances . Esther was the only presidential child to date to be born in the White House .

She was born a few months after her father took up another term in office. Grover Cleveland had replaced his predecessor as President, Benjamin Harrison . The family had moved into the rooms a second time. In 1896, the child became infected with measles , which led to a quarantine in the White House. Five years later, the daughter of the now ex-president contracted diphtheria . In early 1912, Esther was introduced to the company, and rumors shortly afterwards wanted to know of a connection with Randolph D. West, which was denied by relatives.

During the First World War, Esther volunteered in England, where she met her husband. On March 4, 1918, she married Captain William Sidney Bence Bosanquet of the British Army Coldstream Guards at Westminster Abbey in London .

Bosanquet was a senior executive in the iron and steel industry. They spent their years together in Yorkshire . Her husband, born in 1893, died in Redcar on March 5, 1966 .

After her husband's death, Esther returned to the United States and settled in Tamworth , Carroll County , New Hampshire , where her father had bought a summer home. Her daughter is the British philosopher Philippa Foot .

Esther Cleveland Bosanquet died in Tamworth in 1980 at the age of 86.
