The Estonian Council Presidency designates the presidency of the Republic of Estonia in the Council of Ministers of the EU for the second half of 2017. Originally planned six months later (for the first half of 2018), it was brought forward by six months after a decision by the EU members because that The United Kingdom decided not to hold a presidency in the wake of its planned exit from the EU . Estonia forms a trio with Bulgaria and Austria . It is the first Council Presidency of the country that joined the EU in 2004 , following the presidency of the island state of Malta .

In this context, security issues will be a central focus of the work of the Trio Council Presidency over the next 18 months. In the work program presented on June 2, 2017, this was declared by Estonia, Bulgaria and Austria . The aim is also to improve cooperation in criminal matters and in the fight against corruption and extremism. E-Justice and other technical facilities are to be strengthened for greater cooperation between the courts and legal professions and the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor's Office is to be further supported. On April 7, 2017, the Estonian State Chancellery officially presented the logo of the Estonian EU Council Presidency. As in 2016 for Slovakia and 2017 for Malta, the logo of the EU Council Presidency of Estonia was found through a public tender. The winner of the tender in the creative competition for the development of the corporate design: 100 years of Estonia and for the EU Council Presidency, Identity Ltd. in Tallinn .

The basic form of the logo of the Estonian Council Presidency 2017 is an obelus symbol , a symbol of division . The colon can be of the same color, or the lower point can be highlighted in a different color or with an image. The horizontal line is formed by the domain : EU2017.EE, which can also have the same color as the upper point or the color of the lower point or with the image used there. The logo should express the slogan “Unity through Balance” ( Estonian : Ühtsus tasakaalu kaudu , English : Unity through Balance ).
