Ethan M. Shevach
Ethan M. Shevach (* 1943 ) is an immunologist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in Bethesda , Maryland .
Live and act
Shevach acquired in 1967 at the Boston University to MD as graduation from medical school. After a few years of clinical training, he took on a position as a research assistant (senior staff fellow) at NIAID in 1972 , in 1973 he became head of a research group (senior investigator) and in 1987 he was head of department (section chief) . Today (as of 2015) he is head of the department for cellular immunology at NIAID.
From 1987 to 1992 he was a senior editor of the scientific journal Journal of Immunology (Published by the American Association of Immunologists ) and from 1996 to 2007, the journal Cellular Immunology .
Shevach was able to contribute significantly to the elucidation of the function of the regulatory T-cell and the transcription factor FOXP3 .
In 2004 the Cancer Research Institute awarded him the William B. Coley Award for Distinguished Research in Basic and Tumor Immunology . Since 2015 Thomson Reuters Shevach has been one of the favorites for a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine due to the large number of his citations .
