Ethelbert Ridge is a volcanic mountain ridge on the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises from the sedimentary rock groups located on Fossil Bluff east-southeast of Mount Alfred .
The British geologist Alistair Linn (* 1945) from the British Antarctic Survey originally named it in 1970 as Saddleback Ridge after the conspicuous mountain saddle that emerges in this mountain ridge when viewed from the south. However, since other objects in the area are named after Anglo-Saxon kings, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided on April 29, 1997 to rename it. The new namesake is Ethelbert (835-865), ruler of the lower kingdoms of Kent , Essex and Surrey from 860 until his death.
