Ethoxypropanols

Ethoxypropanols or propylene glycol monoethyl ether belong to the group of substances called glycol ethers and consist of a propanol and an ethyl ether part.

These are used to produce paints, lacquers, leather sealants, wood stains, furniture polishes, inks, polyglycol ethers and cleaning agents. They also serve as antifreeze, solvents and extractants. They can also be used as additives in adhesives, agrochemicals and nail care products.

In addition to the ethoxypropanols mentioned above, there is also the isomer 2-ethoxy-2-propanol, this hemiketal made from acetone ethanol is not particularly stable. There are different CAS numbers for 2-ethoxy-2-propanol in the literature:

There are hardly any experimental data for 2-ethoxy-2-propanol. A mixture of 2-ethoxy-2-propanol, hydrated acetone and an unspecified substance is recorded under the CAS number 1602489-60-0 .
