Eugène Jean François Balme (born November 22, 1874 in Oullins , † February 24, 1914 in Paris ) was a French sports shooter .
successes
Eugène Balme took part in the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 and in London in 1908 . In 1900 he competed with the orderly revolver at 20 m, which the IOC assigns to today's rapid-fire pistol category . A total of six shooters competed in this competition, in which six shots were fired. While Maurice Larrouy was the only one to score 58 points, all other shooters got 57 points. It is not clear how the distribution of places two to six came about; the results lists Léon Moreaux as silver and Eugène Balme as bronze. In 1908 Balme was active in two team disciplines. In the three-position fight with the free rifle, he won the bronze medal with Léon Johnson , André Parmentier , Albert Courquin , Maurice Lecoq and Raoul de Boigne behind Norway and Sweden, while in the team competition with the army rifle he missed another medal win in fourth.
With the free rifle he won a total of eight medals at world championships . For example, in 1906 in Milan he became world champion in the individual competitions in the prone position and in the three-position fight.
Balme worked as an engineer at the Thomson-Houston Electric Company . He suffered from neurasthenia and shot himself at home with two pistols on February 24, 1914 as a result of an episode of illness.
