X-Bionic Sphere

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The X-Bionic Sphere ( proper spelling : "x-bionic sphere") is a multifunctional system in Šamorín in western Slovakia , southeast of Bratislava . It combines the training facilities for almost 30 Olympic disciplines as well as a conference and hotel area. A total of up to 16,600 spectators can be accommodated.

history

The initiative to build the sports park, originally known as the “Hippo Arena Samorin”, came from the Slovak businessman Mario Hoffmann, who dealt with the planning in 2012/2013 and was able to win over the German course designer Arno Gego for the implementation . In 2015, the core of the facility was completed and served as the reason for the candidacy to host the World Equestrian Games in 2022. In fact, Šamorín was one of two applicants for the candidacy, but withdrew it in 2017.

In the first half of 2016, the water sports and athletics facilities, a football stadium, a fully equipped gym and weight room, a wellness - spa area and a hotel were completed.

The “Equestosphere”, which was first finalized in 2015, immediately served as the venue for an Olympic qualification. In the summer of 2016 the sports park as a whole received the status of the Olympic Training Center of Slovakia.

It is named after the Swiss company X-Technology Swiss Research & Development or its brand "X-Bionic".

Location and facilities

The over 100 hectare facility is located directly between the Danube in the west and Šamorín in the north and northeast. The village of Čilistov ( Kledern ) borders the sports park to the southeast .

It includes facilities for jumping, dressage, eventing, endurance riding, vaulting and driving as well as an all-weather racecourse over 1,650 m and 800 horse boxes. The complex is considered to be the largest and most modern equestrian center in Central Europe.

In the south-eastern part, a football stadium according to FIFA standards also takes up a comparatively large area. For example, it was used by the Turkish club Galatasaray Istanbul to prepare for the 2017 season.

There is also an IAAF -certified athletics facility, several grass and sand courts and multi-purpose halls , two three- star hotels and a conference building.

In addition, the state-accredited Technological Institute A. Ruprecht , which offers engineering training with a bachelor's degree , is located on the site . The facility was founded by the chemical holding Energochemica to train graduates in a targeted manner.
