Eugène Corbin
Jean-Baptiste Corbin , usually called Eugène Corbin (born February 26, 1867 in Nancy , † November 3, 1952 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French entrepreneur and art patron .
Eugène Corbin was the fourth child of Antoine Corbin . the founder of Magasins Réunis , a department store group based in Nancy. Together with his brother-in-law, he was also a leader in this company, but was also particularly interested in culture. On the occasion of an expansion of the department store, Corbin commissioned the architect Lucien Weissenburger and artists from the École de Nancy such as Louis Majorelle , Jacques Grüber , Victor Prouvé , Alfred Finot , Jules Cayette and Henri Suhner with the renovation and furnishing. In 1909, Corbin co-founded Art et Industrie magazine . During the First World War , Corbin was particularly committed to the technique of camouflage ( camouflage ) as part of the French army.
In 1935, Corbin donated his significant collection of more than 600 art nouveau objects to his hometown Nancy. Since 1964, his former villa has housed the Musée de l'ecole de Nancy .
