Jacques Grüber

Jacques Grüber (born January 25, 1870 in Sundhouse , † December 15, 1936 in Paris ) was a French glass painter .

After finishing school, Jacques Grüber studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy and then with the help of a scholarship from the city of Nancy in Paris with Gustave Moreau .

After completing his studies, Jacques Grüber taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Nancy from 1893 . In 1897 he set up his own atelier to specialize in the design of vases for the Daum company , furniture for the Majorelle company and book covers for René Wiener . Ultimately, he concentrated entirely on designing glass and leaded glass windows .

Jacques Grüber was one of the co-founders of the École de Nancy in 1901 and was part of its management in the first few years. He is now considered the most respected glass painter at the École de Nancy. In Nancy, his work for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Villa Majorelle and Villa Bergeret are particularly noteworthy.

In 1914 Jacques Grüber moved to Paris, where he set up a studio in the Villa d'Alésia in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. His most famous work of this time is the glass dome in the Galeries Lafayette department store in Paris.

Jacques Grüber died in Paris in 1936. His son Jean-Jacques Grüber also became a glass painter and his second son, Francis Grüber , became a painter.
