Eugène Lambert

Louis Eugène Lambert (born September 24, 1825 in Paris ; † May 17, 1900 there ) was a French animal painter . He specialized in dogs and cats and "is considered to be the head of all those who were honored with the title of" Katzenraphael "in the various nations".

With the support of his teacher Eugène Delacroix , he quickly achieved fame with his lovely depictions of animals, and from 1847 at the age of twenty-two he sent to the Paris Salon . In addition to his oil paintings, he also made many works in watercolor. Lambert was a member of the Société d'aquarellistes français between 1879 and 1896 .

His work can be found in many large museums, such as the British Museum in London , Musée du Luxembourg in Paris , Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon , Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes , Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam , Brooklyn Museum , Cincinnati Art Museum , Ixelles , Clamecy and others.

He was awarded medals at exhibitions in 1865, 1866 and 1870 and became a Knight of the Legion of Honor on August 16, 1874 .
