Live and act

In 1934 D'Hellemmes played the trombone in André Ekyan's orchestra, which also included Alix Combelle , Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt . At the end of 1934 he worked at Wal-Berg et son Jazz Français ; in March 1935 with Freddy Taylor and His Swing Men from Harlem. Around this time he played in Michel Warlop's orchestra with Coleman Hawkins , who was in Paris ; Grappelli and Reinhardt were also involved in the recording session with the American saxophonist ("Avalon").

At the end of June 1935 he took part - this time as bassist - in a studio session of the Quintette du Hot Club de France ("Avalon" / "Smoke Rings", including with Arthur Briggs , Alphonse Cox , Pierre Allier and Baro Ferret ). In 1936 he played in the John Ellsworth Orchestra on recordings with Adelaide Hall (" East of the Sun (and West of the Moon) ") bass; also in the Bill Coleman Trio with the pianist Herman Chittison and in his orchestra, with Pierre Allier, Philippe Brun and on September 9, 1937 again with Reinhardt (" St. Louis Blues "). From 1938 d'Hellemmes worked as a trombonist with Willie Lewis and His Entertainers, Fred Adison , Alix Combelle .

At the end of 1941 he migrated to Latin America with the Ray Ventura orchestra . There, in Montevideo in 1942, recordings were made with Booker Pittman during a jam session with musicians from the Ventura Orchestra. In Buenos Aires he played in 1943 with Pierre Alliers Swing Bakers ( The Rhythmakers of Buenos Aires ). He can also be heard on recordings by Henri Salvador from this period. Further recordings with the band from Ventura can be found on the album L'Aventure Sud Americaine 1942 - 1944. In 1945 he made recordings with his own formation D'Hellemmes Stompers . Unlike most of the musicians in the Ventura Orchestra, D'Hellemmes stayed in South America and, in 1957, presented Requebrando, an album of Brazilian hits in an instrumental version. In 1958 another samba album Na Gafieira e assim was created , which presented the trombonist Eugène D'Hellemmes with the vocalists Mara Silva, Paul Moreno and Caco Velho as well as a dance orchestra in arrangements by Waldemiro Lemke. Tom Lord lists 26 recording sessions between 1934 and 1945.
