Eugênio German

Eugênio Maciel German (born October 24, 1930 in Ubá , Brazil , † April 1, 2001 in Belo Horizonte , Brazil) was a Brazilian chess player .

Life

In 1949 Eugênio German won a competition against Jayme Schreibman Moses in Belo Horizonte (+2 = 1 −1). In the same year he was at the 17th Brazilian championship in Rio de Janeiro 3rd-4th (winner was Walter Cruz ). In 1950 he was at the 18th Brazilian Championship , again in Rio de Janeiro, tied 5-6. ( Jose Thiago Mangini won ). The following year he finally won the 19th edition of the competition in Fortaleza . In 1951/52 he reached fourth place at a tournament in San Rafael ( Erich Eliskases won). In 1952 he was split 7th – 8th. at a tournament in Mar del Plata ( Julio Bolbochán and Héctor Rossetto won). In the same year in São Paulo it was tied for 2nd – 3rd behind Flavio de Carvalho Jr. at the 20th Brazilian Championship .

In 1960 he won a qualifying tournament for the South American zone tournament in Belo Horizonte . In the same year he was tied 3rd – 5th at the zone tournament in São Paulo. (Julio Bolbochán won). In 1961 he won the zone tournament play- off before Rodrigo Flores and Bernardo Wexler and qualified for the 1962 Stockholm interzonal tournament . There he reached the divided 19th – 20th. Space. In 1963 and 1965 he won two more tournaments in Belo Horizonte, and in 1972 he won the 39th Brazilian championship in Blumenau .

Eugenio German took part in three Chess Olympiads for Brazil :

In 1952 he was awarded the title of International Master by FIDE , making him the first Brazilian holder of this title.
