Live and act

Angerhausen passed the Abitur in Krefeld and studied camera studies in Berlin and Tübingen. He was a member of the Catholic student associations KAV Suevia Berlin and AV Guestfalia Tübingen in the CV . In Tübingen he was given the topic, “The central bank question in Switzerland . Contribution to your solution "to the Dr. PhD in cameralistics / political science (cam.). His dissertation was published under this title in 1904 by Greven in Krefeld. His doctoral supervisor was Friedrich Julius von Neumann(1835–1910), who, as a political economist, dealt not only with financial theory, but also with socio-political issues. In 1905 Angerhausen was already a board member of Krefelder Bank AG and until 1933 bank director of Dresdner Bank in Krefeld. Politically, Eugen followed in the footsteps of his father Jean Angerhausen, who was involved in the German Center Party founded in 1870 and political Catholicism. He had a decisive influence on the development of the industrial city of Krefeld and the communal order of the district until the 1950s, but remained largely in the background despite the very turbulent times. Hardly any ego documents have been received from him. In 1919 he served as a hostage to the Belgian occupiers.

As a local politician, Angerhausenden also kept an eye out for the needy. In 1922 he joined his brother-in-law Paul Witten - later President of the OFD Düsseldorf , married to Wilhelmine geb. Dhein - the board of trustees of the Joseph Hospital in Krefeld. It got into financial trouble. On November 30, 1923, the city dean (since 1922) Prof. Dr. Gregor Schwamborn at the Cologne Ordinariate for his “parish child, Mr. Bank Director Dr. Eugen Angerhausen ”, the award of the New Year's Eve . He justified this with the exemplary Catholic way of life of Angerhausen and his whole family - Angerhausen had married the eldest daughter of the cloth merchant Jakob Dhein (1840–1904), Julie, in 1905 - and his "merits", which are "unreservedly" recognized by the Catholic population . His active support made it possible for the Catholic Poor Administration to maintain its two institutions - orphanage and old woman's house; First and foremost, the Marienschule owes its continued existence to him ... As chairman of the center faction, he represented all Catholic interests in the best and most manly manner, following the good traditions of his family: his father was for a time the only Catholic city councilor; "The appointment knight of the Sylvester order with the right to ride on horseback in St. Peter's Basilica was made by Pope Pius XI. on June 20, 1924. the center was closed in 1933 and Angerhausen replaced as a bank manager by a Nazi-man. the arrest by the Nazis he could withdraw.

Under the chairmanship of Eugen Angerhausen, the center was re-established as the German Center Party in Krefeld in December 1945 / January 1946. He initially refused to cooperate with the CDU because he feared that he would lose his own voters to this party, which he did. Taking into account the changed background of the denominations in the Rhineland, Angerhausen joined the CDU in 1955. Since they did not have their own candidate for the office of mayor in 1949 and the SPD also did not want the deputy mayor , they apparently asked Eugen Angerhausen, who, however, turned down for reasons of age - he was 72 years old. The election of Hanns Müller as Lord Mayor of Krefeld then took place under his chairmanship as the oldest city councilor. He was also sworn in by Angerhausen, which, since he was a Mennonite , required something special. Angerhausen left the Krefeld city council for good in 1954.

Honors

Angerhausen refused to accept the Federal Cross of Merit as a pin in 1953. In 1957 he received the ring of honor of the city of Krefeld and the title of city elder. In 1963 honorary citizenship took place . He died unexpectedly on May 4, 1965 and was buried in the Krefeld cemetery. His grave is an honor grave.
