Gregor A. Gregorius (born March 11, 1888 in Leipzig or 1890 in Riesa ; † January 5, 1964 in Berlin , real name Eugen Grosche ) was a German bookseller, writer and occultist . Gregorius was the founder of the Fraternitas Saturni .

life and work

Eugen Grosche was born into a poor family and was therefore unable to complete secondary school. After dropping out of school, he moved to Berlin, where he became a bookseller and publisher of several specialist magazines. After the First World War , in which he had served as a medical officer, he became cultural commissioner of the USPD . In 1920, after the Kapp Putsch , Eugen Grosche was arrested, but acquitted at the trial.

In the autumn of 1923, Eugen Grosche began to hold astrological and occult courses in Berlin with a small group of interested people. This led to the establishment of the 'astrological-esoteric working group' in 1924. However, after internal disputes, the group was disbanded in the same year. On October 1st, 1924 u. a. Eugen Grosche and Hans Müller set up the 'Esoteric Lodge School'. At the same time, on December 16, 1924, the 'pansophic lodge of the light-seeking brothers, Orient Berlin' was founded. The founder of the pansophic society was Heinrich Tränker . When Aleister Crowley wanted to be proclaimed 'world savior' in 1925, a dispute arose between him and Heinrich Tränker at the so-called Weida Conference , whereupon the Berlin local box of the Pansophische Gesellschaft was dissolved on April 1, 1926. Shortly thereafter, Gregor A. Gregorius founded the Fraternitas Saturni, the first thelemic organization that was independent of Crowley and the Ordo Templi Orientis, together with four other former pansophen on May 8, 1926 .

In 1932 Gregorius had to give up his bookstore for financial reasons. His library was confiscated by the National Socialists and Gregorius fled to Switzerland in 1936 . In 1938 he moved to Italy, from where he returned to Germany in 1940 and was held in protective custody for a year . He was released through a relationship with a member of the security service, but was not allowed to publish. After the Second World War he joined the KPD and became city councilor for culture, schools and museums in the Soviet zone of occupation . Because of his esoteric views he was put under pressure and fled to West Berlin in 1950, where he reopened a bookstore. There he rebuilt the Fraternitas Saturni and was editor of the publicly available monthly magazine Blätter für angewandte occult Lebenskunst , which became one of the most extensive occult journals and brought many new members to the Fraternitas Saturni. In 1960 Gregorius published the novel Exorial .

Gregor A. Gregorius remained head of the Fraternitas Saturni until his death in 1964.
