Eugene Jesser

Eugen Jesser (born March 17, 1946 in Vienna ; † May 11, 2008 there ) was President and Director of the Vienna Boys' Choir .

Life

Eugen Jesser was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir in his childhood and studied history at the University of Vienna after graduating from high school . In 1982 he completed his studies with a doctorate. From 1970 Jesser worked in the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture and from 1992 headed the department for extracurricular youth education. In 1993 he was appointed director of the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle , and in 1999 he was elected to the board of the Vienna Boys' Choir. Between 2001 and his death in 2008, Jesser was the presidency of the Vienna Boys' Choir. The general renovation of the Palais Augarten took place during his tenure as President and Director of the Boys' Choirand the adjoining boarding school building. Jesser argued with the Filmarchiv Austria about the development of the Vienna Augartenspitz, whereby the decision was finally made in favor of the Vienna Boys' Choir and the construction of a concert hall there.

Jesser was the bearer of the Great Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna as well as the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class and holder of the Commander's Cross of the Order of Holy New Year's Eve . He was married and had two children. Jesser died on May 11th, 2008 after a short illness of cancer.
