Eugen Kuntz

Eugen Kuntz (born March 6, 1925 in Klingen ; † February 5, 1998 in Karlsruhe ) was professor from 1961 to 1990 and since 1965 professor for astronomical and electronic geodesy at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .

Life

On his initiative, intensive geodetic- geophysical research began in the 1970s on the subsurface of the Upper Rhine Rift - a tectonically formed sedimentary basin with an eventful geological past and present. The construction of the Schiltach observatory was also promoted by Kuntz.

The geodesist was also known through two specialist books and many publications. His numerous doctoral students carried the reputation of Karlsruhe geodesy in countries on all continents and stimulated further work by several institutes (including the Technical University of Munich and Vienna ) on the use of astrolabes and earth crust geodynamics .
