Heinz Draheim

Heinz Draheim (born November 5, 1915 in Schönfeld , Dramburg district ; † April 25, 2012 ) was a German professor of geodesy and long-time rector of the University of Karlsruhe .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin, Draheim studied geodesy at the Technical University of Berlin. From 1939 to 1943 he took part in the Second World War until he was taken prisoner of war. After his release in 1947, he began to work as a research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin . There he received his doctorate in 1952 as Dr.-Ing. and completed his habilitation in 1958 on "Apospheres as geodetic computing surfaces".

In 1959 Draheim was appointed to an extraordinary professorship for geodesy at the TH Karlsruhe at the Geodetic Institute, of which he became director in 1960. From 1965 to 1966 he was dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Surveying. Draheim was rector of the Fridericiana for a total of 15 years, from 1968 to 1983. Hermann Mälzer took over his chair in Geodesy II between 1970 and 1979 as a substitute.

In addition to research and teaching, Draheim was president of the umbrella association for surveying engineers FIG , from 1970 to 1972 , of which he was made honorary president in 1974.

From 1962 he was the chief editor of the journal Allgemeine Vermessungs-Nachrichten . In addition, he was editor of the "Wichmann Collection", a series of books and publications on geodetic textbooks.
