Eugen Münch (entrepreneur)

Eugen Münch (* 1945 in Riedlingen ) is a German entrepreneur and hospital manager. He is the founder and major shareholder of Rhön-Klinikum AG .

Life

Münch learned the trade of miller ; however, a flour dust allergy meant that he could not work in this profession. Mid-1960s, he studied business administration and some semesters Jura after he first over the second-chance education , the high school had graduated. He then worked for a tax consultant who worked for a depreciation company that had speculated with a dilapidated health clinic in what was then the edge of the zone in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ; the house was threatened with bankruptcy. Münch created a detailed concept to renovate the clinic. The shareholders then hired Münch as a renovator in 1970. The renovation was completed in 1974; In the same year, Münch took over the management of "Kurbetriebs- und Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH", which later became "Rhön-Klinikum GmbH" in Bad Neustadt a. d. Saale was renamed. In order to be able to “look behind the scenes”, Münch acquired a share in the company for 5,000 euros.

In 1988 the GmbH was converted into an AG; Münch was the sole director here. In 1989 the AG went public. The Rhön-Klinikum AG was listed in the MDAX from 1996 . It has been listed in the SDAX since December 2016 . Münch has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Rhön-Klinikum AG since 2005.

The loss-making public clinics acquired by Münch and his chain are being rationalized with the aim of reaching the break-even point , i.e. an initial profit, one year after the acquisition . This drastic reorganization and cost reduction sometimes leads to conflicts with employees and unions.

social commitment

In 2014, Eugen Münch established a foundation . The purpose of the Münch Foundation is to promote science and research in the field of health management , in particular on the basis of the network medicine concept developed by Eugen Münch, as well as to promote public health and health care .
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic , Münch donated protective equipment worth over 200,000 euros to nursing homes and outpatient care services in the Rhön-Grabfeld district as well as 100,000 everyday masks for the population in the city and district of Bad Kissingen .
