Eugen Menken

Eugen Menken (born July 23, 1929 - † December 4, 2008 ) was a German judge .

Eugen Menken was a traffic judge at the Cologne District Court . He was known for his humorous justifications , including the well-known brewery horse judgment from 1984, or Dat Sesterpääd for short (High German: The Sesterpferd ) (Cologne District Court, October 12, 1984, Az .: 226 C 356/84). It was about the carriage horse of a wagon from the Sester brewery that had kicked a bump in a car while the wagon was standing in front of a pub. In the verdict, the judge reprimanded the driver: "It would have been enough if he had taken the horses to the bar, where they would certainly have felt more comfortable as real Cologne brewery horses than outside in the rain." The brewery was sentenced to 1950 marks in damages.
