Hans Putzo

Hans Georg Putzo (born September 16, 1926 in Munich ; † November 27, 2013 there ) was a German judge and legal scholar.

Career

Putzo was born the son of a publishing clerk. In 1944 he received the certificate of maturity at a high school and was then called up for military service. He was taken prisoner by the Soviets , from which he returned in 1948. In the same year he began studying law at the University of Munich . After six semesters, he passed the first state examination in law in 1952 and the second state examination in 1954. In between he did his doctorate in 1953 with Alfred Hueck .

He joined the Bavarian judicial service, was appointed district judge in 1957 and district court director in 1966. In 1967 he became presiding judge at the regional court, in 1978 presiding judge at the Munich Higher Regional Court and in 1984 presiding judge at the Bavarian Supreme Regional Court . From 1988 until his retirement in 1991 he was Vice President of the Bavarian Supreme Court.

From April 1974 he was honorary professor at the University of Munich .

For 38 years until 2006, Putzo commented on parts of the law of obligations of the BGB in Palandt . Up until a few years before he left the team of authors, one focus of his commentary was sales, rental and service contract law. He was also the editor of a commentary on the Code of Civil Procedure , together with Heinz Thomas .
