reception

Henryk M. Broder wrote about Sorg's book Die Lust am Bad: Why violence cannot be cured , in which Sorg declared that massacres do not occur for ideological reasons or for revenge, but out of greed and the pure joy of killing:

“With such theses, Sorg brings the debate about human nature back to the ground of reality, after it has been conducted for far too long in the dollhouse of social sciences. He does not differentiate between leaders and those who have been seduced, as theologians, sociologists and psychologists do; he diagnoses "the pleasure in fighting itself, the joy in destruction, in the devastating vengeance, in the successful raid" [..] Because: "Behind the Evil has no pathology, no despair, no revenge for injustice suffered. There is nothing behind him but the decision to do evil. "

Svenja Flaßpöhler commented that Sorg's thesis is obvious at first glance, but problematic at the second. He disregards the “logic of transgression of evil” and that evil is not just natural, but precisely an effect of moral demarcation. The prohibition and its transgression are enjoyed, so the culture, which exempts Sorg from any guilt, is ultimately the origin of evil. Furthermore, Sorg did not work out the diversity of the crimes he cited and the “different types of pleasure”.
