Eugen Theodor Martin (born December 28, 1925 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † December 15, 2010 in Bad Krozingen ) was an entrepreneur , founder , politician of the FDP and president of the Southern Upper Rhine Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

Life

Eugen Martin was born the son of a police officer. His mother had been Grand Duchess Luise's last chef de cuisine . Eugen Martin's family, who still had six older siblings, lived on Hansjakobstrasse. When there was no money for attending grammar school, Eugen Martin managed on his own initiative to receive a scholarship from the city council at the Rotteck grammar school .

After returning home from World War II with a walking disability, he worked as a salesman for soap and detergents. He also used blood donations to pay his rent. Only with a current account credit of 50,000 DM from the Sparkasse on October 1, 1953, was he able to found Marco - Martin & Co. Fachgroßhandlung GmbH & Co. KG , a trading company for hygiene products. He later expanded his Marco specialist company into the European market leader in hygiene wholesaling, and introduced paper towels to several European markets. The company grew to have up to 15 branches in Germany alone and over 400 employees in Germany and abroad. Since Martin's offspring did not take over the company, it was integrated into the Kruse group of companies in 1999, which in turn is part of the specialist wholesaling group ( Igefa ). In 2005 Marco Freiburg moved to a new logistics center in Malterdingen .

Eugen Martin died on the night of December 14th to 15th, 2010 after heart surgery.
