Eugen Zardetti (born November 27, 1849 in Rorschach ; † February 21, 1926 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss naval and portrait painter and automobile pioneer.

Eugen Zardetti studied in Innsbruck, Geneva , Lucerne and Karlsruhe and from 1885 worked mainly in Bregenz , where he lived in the Villa Mirador , and from 1914 in Lucerne. During his studies in Innsbruck he joined the AV Austria Innsbruck in the ÖCV in 1866 .

One of Zardetti's interests was technology. He was the owner of the first industrially manufactured car in Austria, a three-wheeled Benz patent motor car with the chassis number 24, which he had converted into a four-wheel car in 1898. After Zardetti's death in 1926, this vehicle became the property of the Technical Museum in Vienna , where it is still located. Until 1896, Zardetti was the only car owner in Vorarlberg. The year he acquired his vehicle, 1893, he kept a motor vehicle diary that has been preserved. The diary was presented together with Zardetti's paintings in an exhibition in the Vorarlberg State Library in 2007.

Eugen Zardetti was also the Bregenz uncle of the writer Lilly Braumann-Honsell who bought the first private steam yacht on Lake Constance.

In 1885 Zardetti's son Otto Eugen Zardetti was born, who was trained at the Stella Matutina and then began studying law in Zurich .
