Eugene Huu-Chau "Gene" Trinh (born September 14, 1950 in Saigon , Vietnam ) is a former American astronaut .

Life

Trinh grew up in Paris and has lived in the United States since 1968. He received in 1972 a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics from Columbia University in 1974 and 1975 each have a master and in 1977 a doctorate in applied physics from Yale University .

Trinh did 20 years of research at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory . He joined NASA in 1999 and became Director of the Physical Sciences Research Division in the Biological and Physical Research Enterprise at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC Since December 11, 2005, he has been Director of the NASA Management Office (NMO) at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena .

STS-51-B

Trinh was the replacement payload specialist for Taylor Wang , who flew on April 29, 1985 on the space shuttle Challenger to a Spacelab mission of the European Space Agency (ESA).

STS-50

During the STS-50 mission , Trinh was a payload specialist on the Columbia space shuttle . The mission started on June 25, 1992. The primary payload was the USML-1 microgravity laboratory, a manned Spacelab module. Numerous experiments have been conducted to study the crystal growth of zeolite , surface tension physics, and human physiology.

Eugene Trinh is married with one child.
