Eugene 'Geno' Lawrence (born June 22, 1986 in Brooklyn , New York , United States ) is an American basketball player .

Career

Lawrence began his professional career in Slovakia with the traditional club BK SPU Nitra . In the 2008/09 season he led the team to the Slovak championship with an average of 17.8 points per game.

After the season he moved to the Czech Republic, where he played for BK Prostějov for two years and then for ČEZ Basketball Nymburk for one year . With Nymburk, Lawrence became Czech champion.

In the summer of 2012, Lawrence moved to BC Hoverla , Ukraine , where he stayed for two years.

In February 2014, Lawrence moved to Telekom Baskets in Bonn to replace playmaker Jared Jordan , who had migrated to Brose Baskets . Lawrence initially received a contract until the end of the season. Lawrence then extended his contract for the 2014/15 season. In his first full season for Bonn, he averaged 8.3 points and 5.5 assists per game. In the summer of 2015 it was announced that Lawrence would stay in Bonn for two more years. In the 2015/16 season, Lawrence averaged 8.1 points and 7.0 assists per game.

After a mixed season in 2015/2016, in which Telekom Baskets Bonn missed the play-offs, Lawrence used an option in his contract, dissolved the existing contract on July 1, 2016 and left the club. In September 2016, his former club ČEZ Basketball Nymburk announced its commitment for the 2016/2017 season. He stayed there for another three years and won the state championship three times in a row. For the 2019/20 season, Lawrence accepted an offer from Greek first division club Ionikos Nikaias BC. In January 2020 he returned to Bonn.

Personal

Lawrence grew up in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York . He has five sisters and one brother. He played the violin in his childhood and later received a scholarship to the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Lawrence is married with two children.
