Eugenio Prato

Eugenio Luigi Prato (born December 4, 1903 in Fano (Marken) , † unknown) was an Italian diplomat .

He was the son of Maria Pia De Giovanni and Emanuele Filiberto Prato.

Career

He received his doctorate in law .

In 1928 he entered the foreign service and became vice-consul in Šibenik . 1936 he was appointed as secretary of legation third class of Casablanca to Tirana displaced

From 1941 to 1943, during the occupation of Greece by the German Wehrmacht and Italian troops, he was consul in Athens, deputy assistant to Pellegrino Ghigi , the authorized Italian minister in Athens. Prato helped transfer Jews from the German occupation zone to the Italian zone. He supported the consul general Guelfo Zamboni in the rescue of Jews in Athens. After the occupation of Italy by German troops, he refused allegiance to the Italian Social Republic , was interned by the Nazis and transferred to a prison in Verona .

On July 28, 1944, he was returned to the foreign service as second class consul. From September 5, 1945 he was Counselor in Moscow .

From 1947 to 1949 he was Deputy Head of the Economics Department in the Foreign Ministry. From 1949 to 1952 he was consul general in Tunis . From 1952 to 1958 he headed the economics department in the Foreign Ministry.

From 1959 to 1961 he was ambassador to Canberra .

From June 25, 1964 to 1969, during the military dictatorship in Brazil, he was ambassador to Rio de Janeiro . Where he was inducted into the Ordem do Rio Branco on August 20, 1969.
