Eugie Foster

Eugie Foster (* the 30th December 1971 in Urbana , Illinois ; † 27. September 2014 in Atlanta , Georgia ) was an American science fiction - and fantasy - a writer who primarily short stories wrote. She also wrote columns and worked as an editor .

biography

Foster lived in Atlanta, Georgia. At Illinois State University, she completed her studies in developmental psychology as Magistra from. She served as the legislature editor of the Georgia General Assembly. In 1992 she married Matthew M. Foster.

In the field of science fiction and fantasy, she worked as editor-in-chief for the two online platforms Tangent Online and The Fix , which publish reviews of short stories . She was also the managing director for Dragon Con and published their newsletter Daily Dragon . She also wrote the Writing for Young Readers column . It came out monthly and was aimed at authors of children's and youth literature.

Her stories have been published in several notable magazines such as: Fantasy Magazine , Realms of Fantasy , Orson Scott Card's InterGalactic Medicine Show , Best New Romantic Fantasy 2 , Apex and Interzone . Her collection of short stories Returning My Sister's Face and Other Far Eastern Tales of Whimsy and Malice was nominated for the BSFA and Hugo Awards in 2009. The Eugie Foster Memorial Award for Short Fiction was launched in her honor.

The day before Foster died, her final story When It Ends, He Catches Her was published by Daily Science Fiction . The story was a finalist in the 2015 Nebula Awards. Foster died at Emory University Hospital on Sept. 27 of a respiratory disease that occurred due to complications in treatment for a mediastinal B-cell large cell lymphoma that occurred in her on Sept. Was diagnosed October 2013.

A park bench and plaque were erected in Hessel Park, Champaign , Illinois.
