Eulenfisch is an education and culture magazine that appears every six months in the Diocese of Limburg . It is produced in Limburg an der Lahn and is published by the Limburg Episcopal Ordinariate . Founding editor is Eckhard Nordhofen .

Surname

Owlfish stands for a concept of theological knowledge: faith and reason or Fides et Ratio. The owl and fish are an allegory for this. The fish of faith combines with the owl as a symbol of Athena and the bird of wisdom to form a new "being", the owl fish .

Alignment

Religious Education and Contemporary Culture

The magazine shows in its editions how the seemingly opposing aspects of faith and reason come together. As an education and culture magazine, the magazine is primarily aimed at teachers, but at the same time also at a broader public, in particular at educational institutions. The editions are thematically oriented. Well-founded contributions that offer perspectives and newer knowledge on socially relevant topics such as mercy, heroes , time , angels or image theology are flanked by contributions on art and culture as well as an extensive practical part with impulses for high-profile religious instruction in schools . The coupling of the print edition with an online presence of the magazine enables the articles to be supplemented with multimedia content that is available for download.

Theology, society, art

In this combination, the magazine consists of articles by well-known theologians and philosophers such as Georg Langenhorst , Micha Brumlik , Ahmad Milad Karimi , or Holger Zaborowski as well as contributions from personalities of cultural life such as Michael Triegel , Sibylle Lewitscharoff , Markus Lüpertz , Martin Walser , Brigitte Maria Mayer , Wolfgang Niedecken or Ulla Hahn together.

Intercultural and interreligious conversations

Intercultural and interreligious aspects are of particular concern to the editorial team. Each issue illuminates the issue from the perspective of Islam or Judaism . So far, articles have also been made on the refugee situation, which, together with an interview with Navid Kermani , illuminates the personal and social dimensions for the people concerned. The Christian-Jewish as well as Christian-Islamic dialogue found space in the owl fish in numerous contributions, for example the journalist Micha Brumlik and Daniel Kroiellnik discussed current issues. Mouhanad Khorchide highlighted mercy as the main virtue of the Abrahamic religions from an Islamic point of view.

Spirituality and Reason

The Christian life in the modern age plays an essential role in the magazine design. This is reflected in the contributions of numerous religious and clergy - such as reflections on mercy from the Benedictine sisters Sr. Raphaela Brüggenthies and Sr. Philippa Rath from the St. Hildegard Abbey in Eibingen am Rhein , Ansgar Wucherpfennig SJ, Klaus Mertes SJ or the emeritus Pope Benedict XVI. Nonetheless, the magazine consistently confronts religious perspectives with cultural endeavors to lead a spiritually and intellectually rich life. In this way, social issues find a mystagogical, aesthetic and ethical resonance space in images and text.

Owlfish literature

Eulenfisch Literatur is the name of the regular literature supplement to the educational magazine Eulenfisch . In 2009 it replaced the detailed discussion part of the previous publication INFO . Eulenfisch Literatur has been published exclusively as an e-book since 2013 . The literature supplement introduces new literature under the headings Bible , Church , Art , Philosophy and Ethics , Religious Education , Theology and Other Religions and Worldviews . Most of the recommended media can be found in the religious education libraries and media libraries in the Diocese of Limburg. Most of the reviewers work at schools and universities.
