EuroDIG

EuroDIG ("European Dialogue on Internet Governance") has been a pan-European discussion platform for questions of Internet governance that has been held annually since 2008 . It is organized by changing organizations at the European and national level. The event follows the multi- stakeholder approach. Participants are representatives of civil society, industry representatives and members of the technical and academic communities as well as European institutions such as the EU Council Presidency , the European Commission , the European Parliament , the Council of Europe and the European Broadcasting Union .

Idea and goal setting

EuroDIG was founded in 2008 for the regional coordination and preparation of the Internet Governance Forum . It offers European stakeholders the opportunity to discuss questions of Internet governance and thus to influence the rules according to which and under whose leadership and supervision the expansion and administration of the Internet progress. The discussion platform is open to informal and inclusive discussions and dialogue with stakeholders from across Europe.

One of the goals is to work out common positions or to depict the diversity of the respective views and to influence the work of the Internet Governance Forum . The focus is on topics such as IT security vs. Integrity , open internet and human rights , critical resources and infrastructure , net neutrality and the like. EuroDIG is not a decision-making body. The discussions do not lead directly to binding decisions, but as the largest and most important event on Internet governance in Europe, EuroDIG is an important source of inspiration for national and international legislative processes.

Previous events

The event takes place annually in different locations (2008: Strasbourg, 2009: Geneva, 2010: Madrid, 2011: Belgrade, 2012: Stockholm, 2013: Lisbon). The organizers of EuroDIG 2011 included a. the Council of Europe , the Swiss Federal Office of Communications and the European Broadcasting Union . At EuroDIG 2012, u. a. Carl Bildt , Alexander Alvaro , Thorbjørn Jagland and Silvia of Sweden took part.
