The company was founded in 1987 as Gries & Heissel Bankiers KG by Thomas Gries and Wolfgang Heissel in Berlin in the legal form of a limited partnership . In 1989 another location was opened in Frankfurt am Main. A year later, the board members and founders received the “Best Entrepreneur of the Year” award. Since the end of 1999, Gries & Heissel was a subsidiary of the Wiesbaden-based financial services provider Delta Lloyd Deutschland AG, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Delta Lloyd Groep, Amsterdam, and is therefore part of the internationally active Aviva Group. In 2000 the Frankfurt office was relocated to Wiesbaden, the bank's headquarters until mid-2012. Other former branches in Düsseldorf and Hamburg were closed again as part of a restructuring process.

In 2011 it was announced that on the basis of a cooperation agreement with Sydbank, business with wealthy private customers would be discontinued by Gries & Heissel (with effect from January 1, 2012) and customers could continue this with Sydbank. In April 2012 it was announced that the majority of the bank had been acquired by Euro Yatirim Menkul Degerler AS, Istanbul, and that BaFin had not objected to this after the owner control procedure had been completed.

At the end of July 2012, the name was changed to Eurocity Bank AG . In mid-August 2012, the company's headquarters were finally relocated from Wiesbaden to Frankfurt am Main.

In 2016, Euro Yatirim Holding AS sold the majority of the capital and voting rights of Eurocity Bank AG to the Austrian shareholders by selling voting shares.

Business areas

The former Gries & Heissel Bankiers AG offered private banking services with a focus on asset management. As of December 31, 2008, the bank managed assets worth EUR 252 million. As of January 1, 2012, the activities in private banking were discontinued or transferred to the cooperation partner Sydbank A / S.

The bank carries out its business activities under its full license and, at the end of 2017, focused on corporate and business customers. This realignment was underlined with the opening of a branch in downtown Frankfurt. The bank also selectively addresses private customers.

The bank is a member of the statutory compensation scheme of German banks. The bank is not a member of the Association of German Banks and its deposit protection fund .

The modified available equity as of December 31, 2011 amounted to EUR 3,673 thousand; further funds have been added by the purchaser since then.

The subscribed equity as of December 31, 2018 was EUR 26 million.

technology

The Eurocity Bank AG is connected to the cooperative data center of Fiducia & GAD IT in Karlsruhe and uses their software agree21 as the core banking system .
