The Sydbank A / S is a credit institution domiciled in Aabenraa , Denmark . It operates both in Denmark and through branches in Germany.
history
Sydbank was created in 1970 through the merger of four regional South Jutland banks:
- Den Nordslesvigske Folkebank, Aabenraa
- Gråsten Bank, Gråsten
- Folkebanken for Als og Sundeved, Sønderborg
- Tønder Landmandsbank, Tønder
The oldest of these four banks, Tønder Landmandsbank , was founded in 1901.
Sydbank expanded rapidly from the early 1980s. Further mergers and acquisitions followed: Århus Bank was taken over in 1983 and Fynske Bank in 1984 . In 1987 parts of the insolvent Copenhagen 6th July banks were taken over. The merger with Sparekassen Sønderjylland followed in 1990 . With effect from January 1, 1994, Sydbank took over 30 branches in West Jutland from the insolvent Varde Bank . Shortly afterwards, in May 1994, Sydbank bought Aktivbanken in Vejle from the insurance group Topdanmark and integrated the 40 branches in East Jutland into its branch network as well. In 2002 Egnsbank Fyn in Odense was taken over, in 2008 bankTrelleborg in Slagelse . The business area expanded to include the islands of Funen and Zealand . This means that Sydbank is now represented almost everywhere in Denmark.
Today it is the only bank in the border area that has branches in Germany and Denmark.
At the beginning of November 2012, Sydbank took over the banking activities and the branches of Tønder Bank A / S , based in Tønder (Tønder) , after a review by the Danish banking supervisory authority revealed that there was a significant need for value adjustments and Tønder Bank was unable to do so raise the necessary capital.
At the end of 2013, the majority of shares in DiBa A / S in Næstved was acquired (“DiskontoBanken”, not to be confused with the German ING-DiBa ).
