The Eurohafen Emsland is an inland port between the cities of Meppen and Haren in the Lower Saxony district of Emsland , created through inter-municipal cooperation . The port is designed as a dock to the Dortmund-Ems Canal and is connected to the communal industrial area between the districts of Meppen-Hüntel and Haren-Emmeln.
The port area covers an area of around 42 hectares. The total cost was around 21 million euros. The construction took place in three phases. First of all, the branch canal was built with a turning basin and three berths. In the second section, the connection to the Münster - Emden railway connection ( Emsland route ) came. In the third construction phase, additional berths with quays were created.
The Eurohafen Emsland was inaugurated on October 24, 2007.
