history
The building of 1990 built Saargalerie was rebuilt and under monument protection standing nearby building of the mine administration Saarbrücken was gutted and integrated. The opening of the Europe Gallery was planned for 2009; Due to construction delays, however , the topping-out ceremony was not celebrated until March 3, 2010. The mall was then reopened on October 21, 2010. The operator of the Europa-Galerie is ECE Projektmanagement , a German company with headquarters in Hamburg that develops, implements, rents and operates shopping centers.
Condition and location
In the Europa-Galerie there are 110 shops with an area of approx. 25,000 m². The mall is divided into four floors: Basement (a shop in the basement), 1st floor (exit to Bahnhofstraße and Trierer Straße), 2nd floor (exit to the train station), 1st floor. 900 people are employed in the shopping center.
The gallery is located directly opposite the Saarbrücken main train station and is on Bahnhofstrasse at the beginning of the Saarbrücken pedestrian zone in the city center.
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Europa-Galerie Saarbrücken covers a radius of 50 to 70 km around Saarbrücken, so not only areas in Saarland, but also in France and Rhineland-Palatinate.
Infrastructure
The Europa-Galerie is in the immediate vicinity of Saarbrücken main station and the “Hauptbahnhof” stop, which is served by the Saarbahn and numerous bus lines operated by Saarbahn GmbH. The gallery has a directly connected multi-storey car park with more than 1000 chargeable parking spaces.
criticism
There was criticism of the construction of the Europa-Galerie because of the integration and gutting of the Saarbrücken Mining Directorate, which was built between 1877 and 1880 . The facade, a cast-iron staircase, a mosaic floor by Villeroy & Boch , the ballroom and valuable lead-glass windows created by the artist Ferdinand Selgrad have been preserved .
