The European protection area Fohramoos ( Natura 2000 areas ) is located below the Losenpass ( Bödele ) in the municipalities of Dornbirn and Schwarzenberg , in Vorarlberg , Austria . It includes forest , individual trees and small groups of trees as well as an extensive raised bog .

The purpose of the European Protected Area Fohramoos is to protect the endangered wild indigenous plant and animal species and their natural habitats, as well as to preserve the centuries-old cultivated land.

Legal basis

According to the Vorarlberg Nature Conservation Ordinance, the European protected area Fohramoos was designated as such with a simple state law. The flora-fauna-habitat directive 92/43 / EEC (FFH directive) of the European Union forms the basis for the protection . The Fohramoos has had protection status as a landscape protection area since 1974.

topography

The European Protected Area Fohramoos is located to the west below the Losenpass (Bödele) in the municipality of Dornbirn and Schwarzenberg. The entire area has only a slight slope and is at an altitude of about 1135  m above sea level. A. up to 1170  m above sea level A. with an area of ​​about 55 hectares.

Purpose and scope of protection

In terms of the Flora-Fauna-Habitat Directive (Annexes I and II of the Habitats Directive), the following features are relevant and protected for this protected area:

Flora and fauna

There are z. B. stunted birch trees , low-growing mountain pines and stunted pines (mountain pines), sometimes also spruce . The bog forests and groups of trees cover around 40% of the area of ​​the European protected area Fohramoos. These grow in conjunction with bog plants, mud ponds and dwarf shrubs and adapted plants (eg. B. Sundew , rosemary , Bogbean ) and animals (eg. B. Highmoorpath Perlmuttfalter , Colias Palaeno , Moor Lizard ), etc. The layer of peat is up to four feet thick .

Waters

The largest still body of water in the European protected area is the artificially dammed Bödelesee in the northeast, which is fed by the Losenbach and Winsauerbach (Schwarzenberg municipal area). The most southeastern and highest source of the Stiglbach (municipality of Dornbirn) rises near below the Fohramoos parcel, at around 1180 meters above sea level. This brook also forms the western border of the European protected area. The Rothenbach, which rises near the Lank, flows across the Fohramoos and irrigates or drains it.

Tourist use

The Fohramoss is only touched by several signposted hiking trails or only slightly cut up. A circular route takes about an hour.

In winter, a very small part of the Oberlose is used for skiing. A trail is drawn across the Fohramoos . Snowshoeing is also offered, during which the Fohramoos is crossed.
