Europium (II) hydroxide is a chemical compound of europium from the group of hydroxides . It is in the form of its hydrate Eu (OH) 2 · H 2 O.
Extraction and presentation
Europium (II) hydroxide is formed when europium (II, III) oxide decomposes in humid air in addition to europium (III) hydroxide . It is created directly from the reaction of europium with water in sodium hydroxide solution .
properties
Europium (II) hydroxide hydrate is a bright yellow solid that slowly decomposes into europium (III) hydroxide. This also takes place under protective gas. It has an orthorhombic crystal structure with the space group P 2 1 am (space group no. 26, position 4) and the lattice parameters a = 670.1 pm, b = 619.7 pm, c = 365.2 pm.
