Eurovizijos dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka 2019 took place on February 23, 2019 and was the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv ( Israel ). The winner of the preliminary decision is the singer Jurijus with his song Run With The Lions .

format

concept

In contrast to the last few years, for the first time since 2013 there will be only seven programs instead of up to ten programs in recent years. There will be four heats , two semi-finals and a final. The winner should again be decided 50% by jury voting and 50% by televoting.

In this edition, the jury consists of the following people:

• Ramūnas Zilnys
• Vytautas Bikus
• Jonas Nainys

The jury members determine a total of 50% of the final result.

Moderation

On December 13, 2018, LRT announced that Gabriele Martirosianaite and Giedrius Masalskis will moderate the preliminary decision together for the first time.

Choice of contribution

From October 2, 2018 to December 10, 2018, contributions could be submitted to LRT . There are three categories in which songs can be submitted. The first category contains artists with songs, the second category contains artists without songs, and the third category contains songs without artists. Composers can submit contributions regardless of their nationality, but the interpreters of the songs must be Lithuanian citizens.

On December 14, 2018, LRT published the list with a total of 48 participants and their 49 songs.

Heats

All four heats are recorded before the actual broadcast. The jury voted when the program was shot, so that the televoting only takes place on the day of the broadcast.

Heat 1

Heat 1 took place on January 5th, 2019 at 9:00 p.m. ( EET ) at LRT Studios. Twelve participants competed against each other, six of them qualified for the next round.

Second semi-final

The second semi-final took place on February 16, 2019 at 9:00 p.m. ( EET ) at LRT Studios. Four of the twelve participants qualified for the final.

Monika Marija, who already competed in the first semifinals with the song Light On and qualified for the final, asked her fans and the jury not to vote for her song Criminal . The reason she gave was that she would like to sing Light On in the final and that the fans should save their money so that another candidate gets the final place. In the end, however, she qualified for the final with Criminal .

On February 21, 2019 Monika Marija announced that she would withdraw her song Criminal from the finals. According to the LRT rules, she has to pay a fine of 2000 euros for this. Alen Chicco got her final place with the song The Cure .
