Donny Montell (born October 22, 1987 in Vilnius ; real name Donatas Montvydas ) is a Lithuanian pop singer .

Life

Montvydas attended the Balys Dvarionas music school for eight years . There he sang in several choirs and trained in two dance groups. He also graduated from the Vilnius basketball school. After graduating from Gerosios Vilties Middle School in Naujamiestis , Montvydas studied environmental engineering at the Gediminas Technical University in Vilnius . He worked illegally in construction for two years . He intended to apply for a place at Lietuvos muzikos akademija . In September 2011 he and his partner Veronika Brasaitė opened the dance studio Montvydo šokių laboratorija LAB (facility VŠĮ “Šokio laboratorijos”). He also practices martial arts and gymnastics.

In his childhood, Montvydas reached the finals of the national song competition " Dainų dainelė " at the age of six . His vocal teacher was Edmundas Seilius. In summer 2009 he sang with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra (conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius ). From 2009 Montvydas took part in the preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest every year . In 2012 he won and represented Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku . With the pop song Love is Blind , he entered the second semi-finals and qualified for the final two days later. There he reached the 14th place. In 2013 Montvydas had 20 concerts in Lithuanian cities and produced the video clip with Jurgita Jurkutė for the song "Make That Love".

In 2016 he won the Lithuanian preliminary round again and represented his homeland with the song I've Been Waiting for This Night at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm . He was initially able to assert himself in the semi-finals and then reached a ninth place in the final. This was the first top 10 success in ten years and the second best result ever for Lithuania.

Since he has no contracts with foreign music publishers, he sees participation in the Eurovision Song Contest as the only chance to reach a larger audience. In autumn 2016 he plans to appear in the five major Lithuanian sports arenas.

Michael Jackson is one of his role models . In 2015 Montell was a juror for the LNK music project “Lietuvos balsas”. His student Justina Budaitė won.

family

His father, Algirdas Montvydas, is an entrepreneur and used to play drums in the hard rock band “Plackartas”.

Montvydas has been married since September 2013. His wife Veronika Montvydienė is a dancer. They have had their daughter Adelė since October 2013.
