The Roop is a Lithuanian pop - rock band from Vilnius . It consists of the singer and keyboardist Vaidotas Valiukevičius, the drummer Robertas Baranauskas and the guitarist Mantas Banišauskas. They were supposed to represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam , which had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . However, they were able to take first place in the replacement event of the First German Television.

history

The Roop was founded in November 2014 in Vilnius. The three members had previously worked in the music field, the singer of the group, Vaidotas Valiukevičius, also as an actor and presenter. Their debut album To Whom It May Concern was produced by the record company DK Records and released in 2015.

In 2018, The Roop took part in the Lithuanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovizijos , with the song Yes, I Do and took third place.

In 2020 the band took part in the preliminary round for the ESC with their song On Fire , Pabandom iš naujo! 2020 , part. In the final on February 15, 2020, she took first place both with the jury and with the spectators and thus clearly won. The Roop was supposed to represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam, where they should compete in the first semi-finals. According to the betting odds, The Roop were among the favorites to win.
